In der Jury des Kinder- und Jugendfilmpreises LEO ist dieses Jahr auch Ben aus Damaskus. Mit leuchtenden Augen spricht er vom FILMKUNSTFEST MV.
Du bist dieses Jahr in der Kinder- und Jugendjury. Wie bist du dazu gekommen?
Beim Welcome-Cafe im Paulskirchenkeller habe ich Leute kennengelernt, die mich dazu eingeladen haben. Ich freue mich, dass meine Meinung zu den Filmen zählt.
Ihr habt dort ein Projekt namens „Keller Tv“ gestartet. Was dreht ihr so?
Demnächst wollen wir einen Beitrag darüber drehen, wie man sich respektvoll und richtig in der Öffentlichkeit verhält und was es für Regeln gibt. Den Müll trennen, ein Ticket für den Bus kaufen oder dass man manchmal vor der Diskretionslinie warten muss. Besonders interessant ist das für die Flüchtlinge, aber jeder kann sich das ansehen und noch etwas lernen. Ich hab noch viele Ideen für solche Filmprojekte. Vielleicht werde ich ja noch ein professioneller Filmemacher.
Was ist denn dein Plan für die Zukunft?
Erstmal will ich die deutsche Sprache lernen. 2017 kann ich eine Ausbildung zum Mechaniker anfangen und arbeiten gehen. Dann habe ich etwas in der Hand und bin raus aus dem Jobcenter-Gefängnis.
Ihr kommt gerade von dem Film „Europe 5 Days“, in dem Ayla einen wagemutigen Trip nach Europa angeht. Wie war deine Reise nach Deutschland?
Das ist eine lange, harte Geschichte. Ich war in der Türkei, um dort für vier Monate Englisch zu lernen und Geld zum Reisen zu verdienen. Ganz auf mich allein gestellt lebte ich 15 Tage auf der Straße, bis ich jemanden gefunden hatte, bei dem ich schlafen konnte. Dann bin ich endlich nach Deutschland gekommen und nun sehr dankbar, hier zu sein. Meine Eltern sind leider noch in Damaskus, aber es geht ihnen ganz gut.
Nun bist du schon seit vier Monaten hier. Was magst du am liebsten an Schwerin?
Schwerin ist so ruhig. Damaskus ist die überfüllte syrische Hauptstadt, das ist was ganz anderes. Ich habe hier tolle Leute kennengelernt. Die möchten aus mir wirklich etwas machen. Sie verstehen mich und vertrauen mir. Ich würde gerne hier bleiben.

Hey Ben, you are in the child and youth jury this year. How did you get to do this?
I got to know Olaf at the Welcome-Cafe in the Paulskirchenkeller. He called me and said “you’re invited to go to the Filmkunstfestâ€. I am glad that my opinion about the films is required.
In the Paulskirchenkeller you are working on a project called “Keller Tvâ€. What kind of films do you make?
The next project will be a contribution about rules and how to behave respectful and properly in public. How to separate the trash, how to buy a ticket for the bus or that sometimes you have to wait outside the confidentiality line. This is really interesting for the refugees, but anyone could watch it and learn something new. I have many more ideas for film projects like this. Maybe I’ll become a professional filmmaker at the end.
What is your plan for the future?
First, I want to learn the German language. In 2017 I can start an apprenticeship as a mechanic and to work. Then I’ve got something finished and then I am out of the „Job Center Jail“.
You just came from the movie „Europe 5 Days“, in which Ayla starts a risky trip to Europe. How was your journey to Germany?
That is a long, hard story. I was in Turkey for four months to learn english there and earn money for traveling. Completely on my own I lived 15 days in the streets until I found someone where I could sleep. Then I finally came to Germany and now I’m very thankful to be here. Unfortunately my parents are still in Damascus, but they are fine.
Now you’ve been here for four months. What do you like most about Schwerin?
Schwerin is so quiet. Damascus is the crowded Syrian capital, something completely different. I met great people here. They really want to make me something. They understand and trust me. I would really like to stay here.
